Step 1: Connect the Crucial X6 or X8 SSD to your computer

Use the USB-C cable that came with the portable SSD to connect the X8 or X6 to the USB port. If you have a USB-A port instead, connect the USB-A adapter to the cable and use it instead.

Once plugged in, your PC or Mac will recognize the X8 or X6 as a storage device.

Step 2: Save files to the portable SSD

If you are running Windows 10, 8.1, or 7, open “My Computer.” “Crucial X8” or “Crucial X6” will appear as a save destination. If you are running MacOS, use the Finder function to access the SSD, which will appear as “Crucial X8” or as “Crucial X6.” In either case, the portable SSD will be available to assign as a destination to drag and drop files or to assign as a save destination.

Step 3: Partition your drive (optional)

Partitioning your SSD will enable you to create sections within the drive as separate save destinations. For example, you can partition your drive to create a backup drive and a separate read/write drive. For more details, go to “How to Partition an External SSD.

Step 4: Enjoy!
